Interesting factoid, in the Shifters universe, vampires are NOT undead. They are never at any point dead. They are infected. They carry a virus that changes them and others into vampires. The almost universal first symptom of being infected by the LTV B variant virus is barfing up whatever happens to be in your stomach. Blood to blood contact is much swifter than going with saliva alone, so that’s why Karma bit his tongue.

Also, the transformation is neither pleasant nor painless, as you can see. That part is not unique to Ferrah. She’s experiencing all the turning suck anyone else would. The claws are a little off though….

As I said last week, this week is a break week between the old and new chapters. So we have a little game for anyone who wants to play it. We don’t have any official prizes per se, but all the submissions we get will go into a gallery for posterity and everyone’s potential amusement. All you have to do is save the jpg of the blanked out page I’ve selected and fill in the dialogue balloons with alternate dialogue for the characters. When you’ve got your masterpiece of hilarity, either post it in the forums in the Shifters area, post a link to it in this post, or email it to me at shadowsmyst@gmail.com. Next week I will post everything I get. Anyone can participate at any time so if you are a new reader, reading through the archives and come upon this for the first time, even months or years down the road and want to send one of these in to me, I’ll put it on the gallery page. Next week we’ll resume regular updates. I’ve also go the extra page meter up. If you want to see more frequent updates for the month of October, consider donating. Every little bit adds up!

Well, after… five years? Chapter 1 is finally complete! Here we finally get to see what the new vampires look like without their masks. And now you know why they decide to target Ferrah.

There will be a little break here, one week between this issue and the next one starting up so that we can rebuild a bit of backlog to ensure the next chapter continues on-time and on schedule.

There was a question regarding if Shifters would ever update more than once a week. My response to that question is in the forums. I think I will be going ahead with putting up the tipjar, and for every 50$ we get in September, we will add one additional page into the October schedule (we need to plan these things in advance so it has to be for a month in advance) So you can expect some minor tweeks to the website soon to track how much has been donated.

The kinsmir t-shirts are also still available from the store, and I’ll be hopefully getting some more things up into it, like buttons and prints, soon here, as well getting the first Shifters book printed. (*fingers crossed*)

Another exciting thing is that we just recorded our first podcast! I will be posting it later this week in its own section (MORE website renos…). We are currently trying to schedule them every 2 weeks, but if there’s the demand, we may go higher. In the spirit of that, make sure to post your questions to the forum thread!

We are up to page 29! Exciting! Its almost the end of the chapter! Woo! And we haven’t missed a day yet since launch. Come close a few times… but we managed to get it up!

A little world exposition in this page, subtle, but present. More will be explained later but we’ve learned a lot in a single page, so much more than the whole CHAPTER in the last story. whoo for better story telling skills.

I now have a store! The first major item? A bitchin Shifters shirt based of Ferrah’s kinsmir form!

A closer look at the design on the shirt can be found here. The only color is grey right now, but if you order one this week, you will probably get it faster than later because I’m just placing an order for Cos & Effect and its easy to throw a few more shirts in that order if I know they are bought.

I will be selling the cool shirts, comics, jewelry, and more at Cos & Effect this weekend August 13-14 in the Artist alley at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver! If you are in Vancouver, BC this coming weekend come and check it out! A cosplay extravaganza!

Its August, that makes two months of steady Monday updates for everyone. How’s them apples?

In this page we get a little bit of info about Ferrah’s super shiny cyber watch. A biomonitor, for those who don’t know is a little bit of cyberware that monitors your vital signs. It could tell you if you have a fever or if you are fighting an infection, or if you’re blood alcohol level is too high, if you’ve been drugged… all sorts of uses.

Also, as a fun factoid. It is Illegal to be barefoot on the Vancouver Skytrain. You can be kicked off for ‘inappropriate footwear’. That’s where I got the idea that it is also illegal in Shade City and you will be kicked off the tram unless you put on some shoes. Tough beans for a Shifter that’s lost their footwear.

Ferrah’s mom will be playing a bit larger of a roll in the new comic, so you can see she cares about her daughter, taking her to the spa for her birthday. If you’ve never been to the spa, I can’t recommend at least one visit enough. Especially the pedicures. Oh my GOD. *melts*

Minicomi didn’t turn out as well as I’d hoped. But I’ve still got two cons to go. My next con is Cos & Effect, in Vancouver. I’m working on doing some very cool shirts right now, I’ll be posting them for preorder soon for interested people.

Another Monday, another page!

Karma is pretty ticked. Unfortunately his minions aren’t particularly obedient, at least the girl isn’t. We’ll be seeing their faces eventually here. But I think the page largely speaks for itself. Karma isn’t quite as powerless as his newest minion thinks, his powers are just… subtle.

Don’t forget, if you are in Vancouver, BC this weekend (July 23) is MINICOMI! Mad-Cheshire and I will be there selling our wares. Minicomi is at UBC’s Student Union building and is from 10am-5pm. Come and check it out!

Another wonderfully colored page, on time, woot. That’s now six weeks of updates solid. Yes, I’m still counting. XD

Kat knows that the vampires are still hot on her heels and gets herself and Ferrah onto the tramp without Ferrah realizing that anything is wrong. Is she good or what?
Doesn’t stop her from throwing Karma a bit of attitude though.

The Tram system of Shade City is like a super cracked up version of the Skytrain in Vancouver, if you’ve ever seen it. Least that’s what I imagine it to be like.

Don’t forget, if you happen to be in Vancouver, BC round July 23, Minicomi! is going on and both Mad Cheshire and I will be there! Its a free event at UBC, so do stop by! Doors open at 10am. I’ll be selling comics, jewelry, artist cards, commissions, buttons and maybe T-shirts, not sure yet if I can get those done in time. We’ll see! Please come out and show your support!

I will also hopefully be getting a store for Shifters (and other) stuff online soon. There will (hopefully) both downloadable digital content and real physical products. Very exciting times!
